| True Strength: The X Factor of
Positioning
Something that often gets overlooked in calculating a player’s
strength is the role of position. Strength is usually calculated on the
basis of who has the most territories, or the largest army. However, for a
true strength assessment, it greatly matters if a player’s strength is
in a position to be projected.
The ability to project power, and not the actual quantitative strength,
is what will allow a player to quickly overwhelm another.
You want to have your forces on the front line, on the border, in harm’s
way, and not tucked safely away into reserves in the backfield. Troops on
the front can be moved out into offensive action. Troops behind the line
are useless except for holding down territory, and bogging down an enemy
assault (neither of which are important when it comes to seizing an
opportunity that the game presents and trying to jump on it.)
Don’t fritter away your troops in useless reserves, but keep them
where they are 100% effective on both defense AND more importantly, on
offense as well. |
